Town Crier Competition

A Special Town Crier Competition

Marking 25 years as Huddersfield Town Crier

The National Town Crier Competition returns to Huddersfield & it’s something to shout about!

10 Town Criers from all over the UK will take part in the event including Huddersfield’s own Town Crier Vic Watson.

Previous competitions at the Piazza Shopping Centre in Huddersfield town centre have attracted large crowds to this unusual and loud event, it being the biggest in the town criers’ calendar.

Competitors are tested on their ‘cry’ and must show great confidence, diction and clarity to ensure their cry can be heard clearly. Marks are deducted if a word or a line of an official cry is missed during the competition.

Vic Watson, who has staged the competitions regularly in the past, has been Huddersfield’s town crier for 25 years.

The competition will be held at Nelson Mandela Corner (the grassed area at the rear of the library)
